Nikita Hand said she hoped her court victory against Conor McGregor would help show victims that 'no matter how afraid you might be, speak up, you have a voice and keep on fighting for justice'.
Her comments were echoed by the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, which said the verdict strikes an 'important blow to a toxic layer' surrounding society’s views of sexual violence.
Ms Hand, who accused the mixed martial arts fighter of raping her in a Dublin hotel, was awarded almost €250,000 damages in the civil case, which she brought after being told the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) would not bring criminal charges.
Speaking outside the court, she added that 'justice has been served'. She credited her young daughter with giving “so much strength and courage over the last six years throughout this nightmare to keep on pushing for justice'
