Here in Detroit, we know a thing or two about underdog Midwestern cities, so we can't be too hard on Cleveland as the Tigers get ready to face the Guardians in the American League Division Series. The best-of-five contest starts Saturday at Progressive Field in "The Land."
"The Land." Ugh, do people really call it that It's just one of our gripes about Cleveland.
But there's also plenty to like about Cleveland, long derided in pop culture, just as Detroit has taken its share of pot shots over the years. (But at least we never had to shoulder the nickname "The Mistake by the Lake.")
