80 years ago, a small airline in Iceland, Loftleiðir, launched with just a handful of pilots and planes – and went on to change the aviation world, thanks to its special link with Luxembourg.

Through daring risk-taking, budget transatlantic flights, and a spirit of innovation, Loftleiðir connected Iceland, Luxembourg, and the US, earning the nickname "The Hippie Express." But its legacy didn't stop there.

With Luxembourg’s help, the airline's old propeller planes were transformed into a cargo fleet, giving birth to Cargolux Airlines International S.A., now Europe’s largest cargo airline.
