Santa Claus will arrive in Portimão on November 29

Portimão is once again embracing the festive spirit with its Christmas event ‘A Christmas Dream’, running from November 29 to January 6.

Several Christmas-themed festivities are planned throughout the municipality, starting with the arrival of Santa Claus at Praça 1º de Maio (the square in front of town hall) on Friday, November 29 at 4.30pm. The event will precede the switching on of Portimão’s Christmas lights, scheduled for 6pm at Praça da República (Alameda square), which will feature an “immersive show of colour, lights and music” which will run hourly through the festive season.

The decorative lights, which will illuminate 50 key locations in Portimão, will aim to bring the magic of Christmas to the town, living up to a tradition beloved by residents and visitors to Portimão, says the municipal council, which is organising the Christmas festivities.

The festive programme will also feature a Christmas Stage at Praça da República, hosting daily performances, as well as street parades, a natural ice rink, a Christmas market, Santa’s House and Workshop, and the iconic Christmas train. A new themed attraction is also promised to be unveiled soon.

The full schedule will soon be available online, where visitors will be able to find detailed information about the event’s many attractions and activities.
