October unemployment numbers up 3%

The number of unemployed people in Portugal registered at job centres rose by 0.6% in October compared to the previous month, and by 3% compared to the same period last year, according to figures released today by the Employment and Vocational Training Institute, IEFP. “At the end of October 2024, 312,510 unemployed people were registered with the Employment Services on the mainland and in the autonomous regions of Madeira and the Azores, which represents 68.7% of a total of 455,165 people applying for jobs,” reads the note released by the IEFP. The sharpest rise in unemployment was recorded in the Centre and Lisbon and Tejo Valley regions (+4.4%).
