“Highest number ever of American students” in Portugal
The number of American higher education students studying in Portugal increased nearly 60% in the 2022/2023 school year, according to the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD).
According to the foundation’s latest report, entitled ‘Open Doors 2024 – Report on International Educational Exchange’, a total of 1,605 American students decided to pursue their higher education in Portugal, a 58.3% year-on-year increase.
This was the “highest number ever of American students” at Portuguese higher education establishments, the foundation says in a press release.
It adds that Portugal is becoming an increasingly attractive country for US students due to the “unique conditions” it offers and the “growing acknowledgement of the quality of Portuguese higher education.”
FLAD added that around 10% of the US students who studied in Portugal did so through its ‘SiPN – Study in Portugal Network’ exchange programme, promoted by the foundation since 2014.
