EU “has to face possibility of finding itself alone”, says former Portuguese president

Former Portuguese president, António Ramalho Eanes, says he fears a conflict on a global scale, considering that the current situation, which is “changing rapidly”, is particularly worrying for Europe.
In the book ‘Palavra que conta’, published this month by journalist Fátima Campos Ferreira, the former president argues that if the United States is unable to respond in a “convenient way” to the situation created by the invasion of Ukraine, “Europe has to face the possibility of finding itself alone”, which will imply an effort of at least 4% of the budget dedicated to defence.
The book, published by Porto Editora, is based on a television interview with the general, broadcast last May, which was expanded and completed in multiple conversations after the summer.
