Gary Lineker has said he felt it was “the right time” to leave Match of the Day, as the BBC prepares to overhaul the football highlights show.
The former England striker, 63, spoke about his decision to step down as the host of the flagship sports programme at the end of the season in the latest edition of his podcast The Rest is Football.
“It has been an absolute joy and privilege to present such an iconic show for the BBC, but all things have to come to an end,” he said
